At 81 years old, Mr. Joseph Ocloo Aheto, father of the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Management from the same university.
Mr. Aheto was among hundreds of graduates honoured at the 58th Congregation of the University of Cape Coast, where his story stood out as a powerful symbol of perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and lifelong learning.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr. Aheto said he was overjoyed to have his son, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, personally confer the degree on him.
He encouraged the youth to remain focused on their goals and never give up on education regardless of age or circumstance.
Mr. Aheto said he was inspired to pursue further studies when he realised his two sons – who are both professors – were overtaking him and decided to study the MBA program which he started in 2022, when his son was not the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor.
“When I enrolled and commenced lectures, many of the younger students in my class were surprised and were laughing and mocking me that what at all does this old man wants in life. But that didn’t deter me. I soldiered on and now I have graduated,” he added.

Prof. Aheto, for his part, commended his father’s determination, describing his accomplishment as a source of inspiration to both the family and the wider UCC community.
