The Ho airport will host its first commercial test flight on Thursday afternoon, following years of becoming dormant.
According to industry insiders, the arrival of Africa World Airline’s commercial airbus at Ho airport would open up enormous opportunities for the local economy and boost tourism in the city.
“As the country becomes more industrialized, it would be important to diversify the region’s entry routes. According to Dela Gadzanku, Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries for the Volta, Oti, and Eastern Regions, “there should be a boom in market activities in the area with the coming on board of the Ho airport.”
The tourism authority in the Volta Region says it has started planning Volta’s tourist centers for a rise in tourists, citing the region’s cleanliness and tourism prospects.
Alexander Nketia, Director of the Volta Region Tourism Authority, told Citi Business News that the authority has “helped a host of tourism centers” while also preparing tour guides in expectation of increased visits.
The tourism authority isn’t the only one preparing for the surge. The Volta Hoteliers Association has also put together special packages for visitors and businesspeople visiting the Volta Area.
The Hoteliers Association has come together to arrange inexpensive packages for visitors and business people who will visit the Volta Region in the future, according to Stevie-Derrick Armah, Manager of Volta Serene Hotel in Ho.
Daily market women are hoping that increased visits to the Volta Region through the Ho Airport would lead to increased purchases.
