During the Easter celebrations, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) has reminded the public to follow the COVID-19 protocols.
It stated that the legislation must be strictly enforced to safeguard the public from the spread of the Coronavirus.
Superintendent Mrs Sheila Kessie Abayie Buckman, Director of GPS’s Public Affairs Unit, released and signed a press release containing these information.
The Service, as part of its mandate, will have improved protection from April 2 to 5, 2021, and hence appeals to the general population to follow the President’s COVID-19 restrictions, which have the legal endorsement of Ghana’s Parliament, as the Police will strictly implement them, it added.
It stated: “Churches, mosques, and religious organizations are required to hold services for no more than two hours for no more than 100 people, thus adhering to all other COVID-19 protocols. Conventions, crusades, pilgrimages, and any such large-scale physical events are prohibited.”
According to the release, it would be unlawful to hold any carnival, concert, beach party, street dances, march, parades, or other related activities. Nightclubs, as well as cinemas and movie theaters, are prohibited from running. All “closed room” bar or pub operations, including those in hotels, remain unlawful.

Open-air drinking spots, on the other side, are allowed to run as long as they conform to all other COVID-19 protocols.
It stated that operators of tourist attractions and sites could open to the public if they ensured that all patrons wore face masks, maintained social distance, and improved hygiene.
“Families may choose to use the holiday season to bury their loved ones. The public is reminded that holding funerals is against the law. Outside of a church or worship building, private burials with a limit of twenty-five persons are allowed. The estimated number of people who can attend a church or religious funeral ceremony should be a hundred. The COVID-19 protocols must be followed in all situations, and the time does not exceed two hours “It was noted.
Police officers will be available at marked out traffic jams and crash prone locations, working alongside road protection agencies. Drivers that exceed the speed limit, overload, drink and drive, or engage in any traffic violations will be prosecuted, according to the release.
The hospital will shut during this period to allow for fumigation by the Ghana Health Service. As a consequence, the Police Administration is encouraging other health facilities in the Greater Accra area to consider health problems or emergencies that may otherwise be reported to the Police Hospital by officers or loyal residents.
“Officers in plain clothes and uniforms may be mobilized to verify enforcement and take appropriate measures. The Police Administration, on the other side, urges the people to be alert and report any suspicious crime to the closest police station. It urged people to work along with the police to maintain a safe Easter celebrations.
