The Acting President of the Abura Traditional Council in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District here in the Central Region Nana Nkwefi VIII has appealed to President Nana Akufo Addo to create a new constituency within the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District.
According to him, when the number of constituencies increased from 104 to 200 in the Fourth Republic, Asebu and Kwamankese were added to Abura to make them one district.
Addressing the President at a durbar during his two-day tour of the Central region, he said the AAK District in recent times, has faced many challenges, some of which were due to the increasing number of people within the district and inadequate representation hence the need to split the district and convert a constituency.
“If we will not even get a district, we should be given a constituency within the district,” he said.
Nana Nkwefi VIII also stressed that creating a new constituency will ease pressure on the existing assembly and foster development in the area.
President Akufo Addo in his response assured the chief that the issue will be presented to the Electoral Commissioner and her outfit adding that he believes the Commission will take the concern raised into consideration when informed about it.
