The Accra High Court has postponed proceedings on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, to July 29, 2024.
This adjournment follows instructions for lawyers representing one of the petitioners, Paul Boama-Sefa, to submit their written arguments within four weeks.
Additionally, the court is awaiting a response from the Speaker of Parliament, the defendant in the case.
In a significant step towards transparency, the Judiciary Service has allowed live media coverage of all cases related to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
This decision marks a noteworthy shift, allowing the public to closely follow these legal proceedings.
Previously, the Chief Justice had given media houses permission to livestream the Supreme Court hearing of Richard Sky’s injunction application against the passage of the bill.
The new directive now extends this coverage to all related cases.
Currently, four cases concerning the anti-LGBTQ+ bill have been filed within the court system.
Two of these cases are scheduled for hearings at the High Court, while the remaining two will be addressed at the Supreme Court.
