The Accra-Cape Coast highway partially got blocked after a truck carrying sand and rocks overturned on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred between the Child Care Junction and the ECG regional stores, near the regional headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to an eyewitness, Dr. Eric Mensah, the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle after two of its tyres burst. The truck then somersaulted three times, landing on its side across the road.
The driver of the truck though escaped unhurt and was taken to the hospital by police officers who were driving behind the vehicle.
The truck still blocked the road, and only small cars could pass through. The Ghana Road Authority and the Ghana Police Service were notified.
The Police swiftly arrived at the scene and are currently directing vehicular traffic.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes if possible. Those travelling from Accra to Cape Coast can use the Ridge Royal route, Tantri, and Holy Child Stretch to get to Aggrey Memorial to continue their route. Those travelling from Cape Coast to Accra can use the Cape Coast Town route.
