The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, Cape Coast District Society (ICAG-CCDS) has observed its 10th Anniversary with a call on all accountants to embrace and expand the power of networking.
Networking, according to Professor John Gartchie Gatsi, Dean of the School of Business at the University of Cape Coast is a vital aspect of the accountancy profession that holds immense power for the progress of the nation at large.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, UCC, at the ICAG-CCDS 10TH Anniversary Grand Durbar and Accountants’ Conference, he said that networking transcends professional boundaries, creating bridges between sectors, generations, and diverse perspectives.
He indicated that as professional accountants they have the unique opportunity and a profound responsibility to leverage their networks for the greater good of Ghana.
To him, expanding networks as accountants is crucial for nation-building as it has the tendency to foster innovation.
“When we interact with people from different fields, backgrounds, and cultures, we are exposed to a myriad of ideas and approaches. These varied perspectives spark innovation, leading to the development of new technologies, strategies, and solutions.
As accountants, our ability to adapt to changing financial landscapes and embrace innovative approaches is essential for the economic advancement of our nation”, he said.
Professor Gatsi Gartchie also revealed that expanding networks has the benefits of providing support and mentorship.
To him, mentoring relationships and supportive networks are invaluable resources for both seasoned professionals and newcomers.
“The guidance we receive and the guidance we provide create a nurturing environment where skills are honed, confidence is built, and leaders are nurtured”, he continued.
Speaking on the theme for celebration: Promoting Professionalism in Accountancy, Building Partnerships for Sustainability and Expanding Our Networks for Nation Building”, Prof. Gartchie reiteratedthat collaborative networks facilitate resource-sharing and enhance social cohesion.
Meanwhile, the Dean of UCC School of Business has also appealed to all accountants to fully participate in mentoring the next generation of accountants, sharing their wisdom and experiences for the benefit of the profession and nation-building.
“As we move forward, let us embrace the power of networks. Let us seek opportunities to connect, collaborate, and create. Let us extend our hands across sectors and communities, fostering partnerships that drive economic growth, social harmony, and sustainable development. Our networks are not just a professional obligation; it is a patriotic duty”, he noted.
A Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mrs. Ellen Abena Addo on her part encouraged all accountants to open themselves to the emerging trends of artificial intelligence and technology.
She believes adopting the technological trends is crucial in fostering and enhancing the accountancy profession.
“Artificial Intelligence has taken over the world and is the game changer, making work more efficient and effective. Emerging technologies going on, we do not want to see it as a threat but to see it in a positive way. some of the things that used to be done in the past are no more.”
