The Abura Police Station in the Cape Coast North Sub-Metro has officially been operationalized after a year of inactivity following its commissioning.
The construction work of the police station was commenced in 2013 by the then Member of Parliament, Ebo Barton Odro in collaboration with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) and was completed by the former MP Barbara Asher Ayisi.
To spearhead the operationalization of the Station, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Hon. Ernest Arthur, on Sunday, paid a working visit to the Abura Police Station.
He was accompanied by the Former Member of Parliament for the area, Barbara Asher Ayisi, the current Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamina Mintah Nyaku, representative of Barton Odro, Mr. Joel Eshun, the Acting Coordinating Director, Mr. Walter Doe and representatives of the Abura Chief, Nana Kojo Addae.
The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Dr. Kwamina Mintah Nyaku in an interview on the ATLANTIC WAVE Monday expressed optimism that the operationalized police station at Abura will help combat the growing rate of crime in the area and its surrounding communities.
He noted that about eleven personnel have been stationed at the facility and they will be patrolling the Cape Coast North Sub Metro
“It is our belief that this will minimize the crime in that area.” he said.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mr. Ernest Arthur hinted that plans are underway to construct another police station at Sewin.
He revealed that “we allocated in our budget that is supposed to be at the technical university area, sewin to be specific. Hopefully, by this year we going to start that one too.”
This he said to further reduce the pressure on Abura and UCC police.
He also appealed to the residents of Abura to live in accordance with the law and give the police in the area the needed support.
The Abura Police Station officially became operational on Sunday, 7th November 2021.
