Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, is planning to file two additional urgent questions seeking the entire cost of President Akufo-Addo’s trip to the United States.
Mr. Ablakwa will this time demand explanations as to why the President reportedly hired a luxury aircraft for his current trip at a cost of GH3.7 million.
“The President has [again] chartered another flight which cost us GHS 3.7 million. I am filing two other questions on the latest revelations and I am hoping that this time, the government Ministers will not pussyfoot and run away from accountability as they have done all of these months,” Mr. Ablakwa said.
The Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee had already submitted two urgent questions in Parliament requesting that the President’s foreign travel costs be disclosed.
He had previously claimed that the President had spent GHS2.8 million on earlier travels to just South Africa and France, using a private aircraft rather than the presidential jet.
Mr. Ablakwa’s most recent allegation said that President Nana Akufo- Addo’s three recent overseas visits cost the public GH GH10 million.
“For just these three round trips, the President is imposing GHS 10 million [on the taxpayer],” Mr. Ablakwa complained.
He couldn’t understand why the President had chosen a luxury aircraft over the Falcon 900 EX.
The President and top government officials are scheduled to fly aboard the Falcon 900 EX, a 16-seater aircraft purchased for $37 million in 2010.
