Google announced on Thursday the launch of a new AI feature that allows users to virtually try on clothes. The tech giant is also introducing updated price alerts and previewing an upcoming feature for exploring shoppable outfits and room inspiration using generative imagery.
This official launch follows two months of testing the virtual try-on feature, which enables users to upload a photo of themselves to see how clothing items would look on them.
Available in the United States starting today, the feature lets users try on apparel items from Google’s Shopping Graph across Search, Google Shopping, and product results on Google Images.
To use the feature, users can click on a product listing or apparel result and select the “try it on” icon. After uploading a full-length photo, they can visualize themselves wearing the clothing. Users can also save their looks and share them with friends.
While Google has previously offered virtual try-on technology that showcased items on a variety of models, this new feature allows users to try clothes on a virtual version of their own body.
The launch aligns with Google’s ongoing investment in the virtual try-on space. Last month, the company introduced an experimental app called Doppl, which uses AI to visualize how different outfits might look on users.
A Google spokesperson informed TechCrunch that both the new try-on feature and Doppl are powered by the same generative AI technology. Doppl is designed to provide deeper engagement with virtual try-ons, allowing shoppers to curate their personal style and even create AI-generated videos to visualize outfits in real life.

In addition to the new try-on feature, users can now set price alerts, specifying their desired spending limits. Starting today, shoppers in the United States can set alerts for a product and indicate their preferred size, color, and price.
“The Shopping Graph contains products and prices from across the web, so we’ll notify you when there’s an offer that meets your criteria,” said Danielle Buckley, Google’s Director of Consumer Shopping, in a blog post. “No more constant checking to see if that bag you’re eyeing is finally at the right price or forgetting to return to a product you loved.”
Google plans to roll out the upcoming feature for outfit and room design inspiration this fall, allowing users to receive style suggestions and design ideas based on their queries. The tech giant’s vision match technology will generate a range of visual options from the 50 billion products in the Shopping Graph to showcase relevant product listings.
