The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana, University of Cape Coast Local (SSA-UoG, UCC) has held its much-anticipated aspirants’ manifesto reading ahead of the association’s upcoming elections.
The event held at the University’s main auditorium saw candidates vying for executive positions present their vision and plans for the association.
The elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, and have generated significant interest among staff members.
During the manifesto reading, aspirants outlined their key priorities, focusing on improving staff welfare, enhancing working conditions, and strengthening communication between the association’s leadership and its members.
Each of the 23 qualified candidates highlighted the steps they would take to address challenges senior staff face in their line of work and promote a more inclusive and efficient working environment at the University of Cape Coast.
The event provided a platform for members to critically assess the policies of those seeking to lead the SSA-UoG, UCC Local, as they prepare to cast their votes.
The association leaders emphasized the importance of this democratic process, urging all members to carefully consider the manifestos and make informed decisions on Election Day.
In an interview with ATL FM News, the incumbent secretary of SSA-UoG, UCC, Mr. Christopher Aggrey highlighted some challenges which staff face in the University.
Among the challenges is what he described as the ‘social injustice and unfairness’ in the system stating that “a lot of colleagues are due for promotion but for certain encumbrances, they are unable to be promoted or even upgraded.”
“…Everyone comes to work with the expectation of improving his or her well-being and livelihood and so I feel that this challenge is something that is of great gravity,” he added.
Another challenge he cited is the delay in land scheme documentation for members who have invested in the land scheme.
To him, this poses great worry to such members as they expect returns for their investments.
Mr. Aggrey who is also vying for the chairmanship portfolio, outlined some initiatives and policies he seeks to implement to address problems and concerns of the association if he is given the power.
he said these include consolidating and improving existing initiatives, addressing the land scheme surveyor issue besetting the scheme, updating conditions of service, championing national discourse and improving international recognition and partnerships.
Mr. Aggrey therefore urged members of SSA-UoG, UCC to vote for him and support him as the next chairman of SSA-UCC to spearhead developments in the association.
As the countdown to Election Day continues, all eyes will be on the candidates and their ability to convince the electorate that they are the right choice to lead the SSA-UCC.
