The national president for Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Alexander Danso has called for the suspension of this year’s WASSSCE.
According to him, the students are not in their right state of mind to learn and sit for the examinations with the current Covid19 brouhaha in the various secondary schools.
“Learning and revision at this time cannot be effective as students are not in a stable state of mind with everything that is happening around them. It would be good if the examinations are suspended because their performance can even be negatively affected”, he said.
In addition, Mr. Danso believes that the whole examination process could even spread the virus the more. According to him, “both the examination officers and students would be at risk as the virus could possibly be spread through the handling of examination papers and other materials”.

Mr. Danso has further called on parents to exercise calm and not be in a haste to withdraw their wards from their various schools as the consequences could be dire.
“Withdrawing your child from school is not the solution because you would be putting yourself and others at risk if the child has already contracted the virus and so we are pleading with parents to exercise patience and trust in the measures being put in place to ensure the safety of their children”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says he strongly disagrees with those calling for the closure of schools due to recent recorded cases of Covid19 in some Senior High Schools.
Dr Opoku Mensah says closing down schools will be a disservice not only to parents but the students.
According to him, the few figures of recorded cases in the schools as opposed to the over 1 million students that have returned to school should not be enough reason for people to call for the closure of schools saying “schools are the safest environments to manage any situation of the coronavirus since they are in a confined environment.”
