The Headmistress of the of the KNUST Senior High School Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa has been asked to step aside to allow for investigations into circumstances that led to the death of a final year student of the School.
The directive is from the Director General of the Ghana Education Service Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa and was contained in release issued by the Ghana Education Service.
In her absence, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education will take over the administration of the school.
A final year student of the school was confirmed dead after reaching the hospital after the boy is said to have shown signs of helplessness in the school but received no attention from his teachers.
Video footage that went viral on social media shows the boy struggling in the care of his colleagues while some teachers stood by dreading to get close to him. Some of the students alleged the teachers refused to offer any form of assistance because they suspected the boy had contracted coronavirus.
News of his death stirred up outrage among the students which led to vandalising the headteacher’s car. It took the intervention of the police to restore calm to the school.
