Chief of Kakumdo, Nana Kofi Ebu IV, has partnered with the Festive Kids International Foundation to organize a BECE Conference Roadshow Training.
This initiative aims to prepare Form three students of 7 schools within the Kakumdo enclave for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) through an aptitude test to assess their strengths.
Executive Director of Festive Kids International Foundation, Dr. Prince Messiah Yeboah Hayford emphasized prioritising education for the younger generation to foster a prosperous future.
He said the Festive Kids International Foundation began the partnership programme with the Kakumdo Traditional Council over three years ago, underscoring Nana Kofi Ebu IV’s commitment to Education.
Mr. Prince Hayford noted that the BECE Roadshow Training is aimed at helping the candidates prepare well for the BECE.
Speaking to ATLFMNEWS, he mentioned that the aptitude test has for the past four years focused on the four core subjects as students who struggle with such subjects have a very slim chance of gaining admission to senior high schools.
“So, the reason is to help the children master answering questions and then learn how to meet the standard examiners’ requirements.
…they fail the examination not because they don’t know the question. The teachers are doing very well, but there’s an aspect of it, and we say there’s one thing teaching and another thing examining”, he continued.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Domenya, a teacher at Abubonko School, expressed that the test is a preparatory ground for the students to ward off fear associated with BECE.
He further described the test as “one of the pillars that we are to take the children through,” adding that aptitude tests in the first four core subjects, English, Maths, Science, and Social Studies, prepare them to take away any fear with their preview to the paper as it will happen in the BECE”.
On the other hand, the Executive Secretary of Festive Kids International Foundation, Daniella Delali Hayford revealed that the aptitude test is a baseline to refer to.
According to her, the results from the test will help identify areas where the Form Three students need additional support to excel in the upcoming BECE.
Daniella Hayford revealed that this approach has helped improve the BECE results of students over the years emphasizing “We are happy that this year we have the opportunity to do it again.”
Additionally, Nana Opoku Aikins, the Nguamhen of Kakumdo, underscored the importance of investing in students’ education, noting that they represent the future.
He highlighted the need to prioritize ICT as a driving force for development in every nation.
Head Girl for the Kakumdo MA Basic School, Gifty Asafaa expressed gratitude to Nana Kofi Ebu IV for his sponsorship and efforts in helping students pass the BECE.
According to her, the aptitude test seeks to improve their speed, accuracy and approach toward the final exam.
“And I would like to plead with them to continually do this for other students. We have a problem with speed and accuracy because when we are struggling with some questions, we still stick to it but then this aptitude test has helped us a lot”, she revealed.
