In the past, Omar Sheriff Captan was a charming and captivating actor who captivated audiences with his on-screen persona. However, in 2013, he abruptly left the film industry, citing his preparation for ordination as a pastor.
Yes, the Tinseltown celebrity who primarily starred as a lover boy in critically acclaimed films like Outrage, Dark Sands, and My Sweetie as well as well watched soap operas like Broadway and Tentacles has been absent from the spotlight for more than ten years.
His extended absence from the spotlight confirmed rumors that he had given up acting in order to devote all of his attention to God’s kingdom work. That, however, according to Omar Sheriff Captan, is not at all true.
Omar gave an explanation for his absence from the performance of Latif Abubakar’s play, The Licence, in which he performed a lead role over the weekend, in an interview with Graphic Showbiz. He claimed that playing was something he had always done.

“It’s not true that I quit acting. I was still actively involved in movies just that during the period, I just decided not to be in front of the cameras but rather be behind them. Instead of being an actor, I worked as a cameraman that’s why people weren’t seeing me.
“As a cameraman, my work took me to many countries so I was travelling around the world to shoot productions in places such as Kenya, and Tanzania among others but I’m back to my first love. It feels so good to be back in the spotlight again. The response has been convincing that I’ve been missed,” he said.
In order to broaden his horizons professionally and enhance his adaptability, Omar added, “If the need arises, I’ll still go behind the scenes and also shoot as an actor at the same time.” He explained why he chose to work as a cameraman. Thus, I’m juggling my roles as a crew member and a performer,” he continued.
As he gets ready to make a comeback, Omar piques his followers’ interest in his next motion picture.
“To all my fans, get ready! There’s a new movie coming out soon, but it’s a secret for now. I can’t tell you the title yet, but trust me, you’ll love it when it comes out. It’s a project from some of the people I work with and it’s going to be great,” he stated.
