OccupyGhana wants Mr Carlos Ahenkora, prosecuted and withdrawn from representing the Tema West constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming elections for failing to adhere to Covid19 protocols.
The former Deputy Minister of Trade was seen interacting with people at the ongoing voter registration exercise after testing positive for covid19. Mr Ahenkorah admitted he knew he had tested positive but chose to go out and interact with his constituents under the excuse that he remained “careful” while out in the crowd.
His action has received widespread condemnation from the public with some calling for his arrest and prosecution. A release from the presidency has aknowledged receipt of his resignation saying Mr Ahenkora “acted honourably in the circumstances by resigning his office”.

OccupyGhana in a press statement is calling for more harsher sanctions for Mr Ahenkorah. The group says Mr Ahenkora’s actions “show gross disrespect to the pronouncements of the President concerning keeping the populace safe, and his behaviour makes a mockery of any enactments government has made in the fight against the coronavirus” and as a result must be made to face the full rigours of the law.
According to the statement, the former minister’s action does not only bring disrepute to his office but endangers the lives of others which may eventually” lead to an increase in infections and possibly, deaths.”

OccupyGhana in the release has indicated that “If no steps are taken against Mr Ahenkorah, it will cast the government as not just being hypocritical, but as being incapable of keeping the citizenry safe and incompetent to enforce laws it has made” adding that if “many have been taken to task for doing way less than Mr Ahenkora has done, including not wearing a mask while driving alone” then there is no excuse to exempt Mr Ahenkorah from the assigned sanctions of breaking the Covid19 protocols.
The group says the police should “investigate his actions, and if found to have breached the law, prosecute him” while calling on the New Patriotic Party to withdraw him as their candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections.”
