The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye has called for the reintroduction of road tolls in the country.
This follows the halting of the collection of road tolls leading to the closure of toll booths across major points in the country after the government issued a directive in 2021.
During a road inspection of the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Thursday, March 7 by the Ministry, Mr. Asenso Boakye stressed the need to maintain the roads especially the major highways in Ghana.
In an interview on CITIFM, the minister added that citizens should comply with the reintroduction of road tolls as it is aimed at maintaining roads and highways due to their deteriorating conditions.
He further revealed that road tolls are part of every nation’s development hence they should be reconsidered and implemented.
“I think it’s a good time for us to start a discussion to bring these road tolls back so that we can get the money we need to maintain our roads. That is very important. Throughout our ministry, we have started the process by engaging the various stakeholders to see, get their buy-in, to make sure that we bring the road toll back,” he said.
