Chef Failatu Abdul Razak popularly known as Chef Failahas shared her background story behind the woman she is today.
The chef who recently concluded her 10-day cooking marathon expressed her profound joy and thanked her fans, friends and family who stood by her side during the cook-a-thon.
Her success story as she mentioned in an interview with TV3 is tied to her educational background. She stated that her strife to be educated despite her background opened more doors of opportunity for her.
She said, “Before cook-a-thon, I would lament to my fans that, what I can do with my skills, talents and sometimes certain knowledge is simply because I wasn’t coming from a house where both parents were educated to have spotted whatever God had filled me with”
She expressed that cooking was a skill and it has always been her dream to own an eatery and be in the kitchen.
She interned and worked in various hotels and eateries in the Northern Region.
In her words, she said, “I always knew that I would own an eatery because I was never going to leave my cooking skills. It was after school, after UDS I had the opportunity to work with the Bank of Africa, I finally had to resign; I dropped an application like three times before it was accepted because I was hardworking”
Chef Faila stressed that women in the Northern Region are often forced to do what their parents want and are careless about their passion and interests.
Her dream was “to look for an opportunity to change the story about her family, the North and the vilification Northern girls have been through…I was willing to go on and on to die in that Kitchen for them”
Amid emotions and tears, she said “Calculate all the other hours in addition to the 120 hours. It was for my loved ones, it was for all the people who supported me in my lowest. It was for the people who saw me in my lowest self and kept believing in me”.
Chef Faila revealed that her marriage was the only way she could set out and accomplish her vision of becoming a chef.
According to her, she embarked on this cooking marathon in the quest to change the story of her family and to encourage young women who are in the Northern Region.
Her resilience and zeal during the cook-a-thon have drawn many Ghanaians far and near to her cooking business and have gained global attention.
Chef Failatu is currently awaiting the official confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records that her 227-hour longest cooking marathon was completed.
