Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana UCC Local, has declared full support for the ongoing indefinite strike by the SSA UoG.
During an emergency general meeting following SSA UoG’s declaration of the strike action, the Chairman for SSA UoG Local, UCC, Sandy Kumi-Sinatra emphasized the government’s failure to release tier 2 pension funds since February 2023 as a critical issue.
Kumi-Sinatra lamented, “First is our tier two contribution per the new Pension Regulatory Act as the National Pension Act 766 highlights onward submission to our fund managers for investment so that when you retire, the fund managers can pay our lump sum, which government has refused to pay.”
He added, “The government will never deduct our funds and keep it.”
He further noted that the association’s request for its members who work overtime to be paid as done by sister universities has not been met, calling the denial of this payment illegal and requesting a review of the matter.
With the announcement from the SSA UoG and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff of an immediate commencement of an indefinite strike on January 17, 2024, members of the SSA UoG UCC Local have expressed full solidarity and have chosen to cease their work until the government addresses their grievances.
