Prominent Ghanaian journalist Bridget Otoo has called for the “castration” of certain Catholic priests who have engaged in sexual misconduct.
She tweeted on Monday, December 4, 2023, expressing her displeasure with priests who harass people sexually, especially young people, and emphasizing that these behaviors are “ungodly.”
Her latest appeal is in line with a prior post she made advocating for priests to be permitted to be married within the Catholic Church.

But several internet users objected to her idea, which tried to address cases of sexual misbehavior among church members.
In the post she wrote: “Can we Catholics also copy others and let our priests marry instead of the immoral lives they are living? Having children, some raping women and sodomizing innocent boys at the altar? That’s not Christlike 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿“
The journalist has now adopted a more extreme attitude in her most recent follow-up post, despite receiving backlash. She is no longer in favor of permitting priests to be married.
Rather, she asserts that if offenders are unwilling to give up their bad habits, they ought to face harsher consequences.
She wrote: “I’m sorry for suggesting that Catholic priests be allowed to marry; I was trying to be kind. If they won’t change their pedophilic, sodomizing young boys at the altar, raping women, and having multiple children all over with the church covering it, I suggest we castrate them.”
