The Project Officer, Western and Central Region for Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), Mr. Michael Tagoe, has dispelled popular thought that suckling the breast of a woman frequently can prevent breast cancer.
According to Mr. Michael Tagoe who was speaking as a panel on ATL FM’s LOVE REASONS hosted by PDF, he slammed all those propagating the agenda that suckling a woman’s breast can prevent breast cancer.
He labeled it as one of the most dangerous misconceptions about the breast and breast cancer.
Suckling the breast of a woman cannot prevent breast cancer
According to Mr. Tagoe, if you don’t suckle the breast well, it can cause the brain to send messages to the breast to start lactating.
“That’s why I say if you don’t suckle the breast well, it can cause the brain to send messages to the breast to start producing milk when it is not supposed to produce. When it happens this way, it has other consequences” he explained.
He further noted that the idea that is now permeating among many people concerning regularly suckling and playing with the breast to prevent breast cancer is not true.

“You can play with the breast every single day, if you will get breast cancer, you will get breast cancer. Again, some people will say that allow the men to play with the breast because it will prevent breast cancer. That’s not true. So don’t feel that I’m not allowing my partner to play with my breast so I will get breast cancer so because I don’t want now come and play with it.
Speaking on the same program, yesterday, 21st October, 2023, he added that the breast doesn’t droop or sag because a lot of men suckle.
In contrast to these assertions, he pointed out that gravity plays a significant role in causing breast sagging, particularly among women with larger breasts. Additionally, he emphasized that breast size is primarily influenced by genetics and has minimal association with the dietary choices of women or ladies.
“The breast size is more genetic. it is genetic. However, in terms of drooping or falling, if you have big breast and you don’t frequently put on bra to hold them in position, it can easily droop because of gravity. Not because the misconception that when it falls down, then it means you’ve allowed different men or a man has played with your breast for too long and it has fallen down” he explained.
