As part of efforts to enhance education on Breast cancer this October, Mr. Michael Tagoe, Project Officer, Western and Central Region for Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has indicated what causes drooping or sagging breast.
Speaking as a panel on ATL FM’s LOVE REASONS hosted by PDF, Mr. Michael Tagoe shared with our listeners the main cause of sagging or drooping breast.
Breast ptosis, commonly referred to as sagging of the breasts, is a prevalent occurrence. As time passes, just as with various other aspects of the human body, the breasts undergo alterations.
These changes may manifest as a lower position of the breasts on the chest, a downward orientation of the nipple, and a reduction in fullness at the upper part of the breast.
According to Mr. Tagoe, he describes as falsehood claims and misconceptions that the breast droops only when several men suckle or fondle it.
In contrast to these assertions, he pointed out that gravity plays a significant role in causing breast sagging, particularly among women with larger breasts. Additionally, he emphasized that breast size is primarily influenced by genetics and has minimal association with the dietary choices of women or ladies.
“The breast size is more genetic. it is genetic. However, in terms of drooping or falling, if you have big breast and you don’t frequently put on bra to hold them in position, it can easily droop because of gravity. Not because the misconception that when it falls down, then it means you’ve allowed different men or a man has played with your breast for too long and it has fallen down” he explained.

He further noted that there is indeed an alternative method to prevent breast sagging or deterioration.
Mr. Tagoe explained that one of the primary approaches to preserving the breast’s shape is to wear a supportive bra that provides firmness.
“That is why women are encouraged to put on bra that fits so that it can hold them and reduce the gravity. Once they are held in position, it prevents or even reduces the rate at which gravity pulls it and prevents it from drooping” he explained.
The degree of breast ptosis is determined by the positioning of the nipple relative to the crease of the breast. A nipple positioned above the fold line is classified as normal. If the nipple aligns with the fold, it is categorized as first-degree ptosis. Second-degree ptosis occurs when the nipple is situated below the fold, and third-degree ptosis is characterized by a nipple pointing downward.
