After winning the much anticipated Musicians Union of Ghana seat, Clarence Ekow Pietersen, also known as King Pee has finally clarified his controversial No free show comment on ATL FM.
In a live social media interaction, King Pee hinted that any musician who would perform at an event for free would be sanctioned by Central Regional MUSIGA branch.
Speaking on ATL FM’s Entertainment Zone hosted by Barrister Daniels, the newly elected Chairperson for MUSIGA,C/R, King Pee has given further explanations on the said controversial “No free show” comment.
According to King Pee, every artiste who is a registered member of MUSIGA has the prerogative to take his or her decisions concerning shows, however, his outfit won’t bear any concerns over a show that an artiste decides to willfully perform for free.

He further added that the “No free Show” policy is a policy that has the interest of the artistes at heart since it would compel event organizers to respect the artistes and give them an amount that is worth their status and hardwork.
“Well… no artiste is under any obligation to bring his or her music performance contract to be supervised in conjunction with MUSIGA, Central Region. However, this policy is meant to protect the artiste themselves as MUSIG as an entity would be a mediator between the agency employing you to perform” he explained.
He also explained that if any artiste decides not to involve MUSIGA in their contractual agreement with any event organizer, then that artiste definitely has no right to also lodge a complaint before MUSIGA if any even organizer mistreats them in their contractual obligations.
“In as much as you are not under any obligation to involve MUSIGA as a mediating figure in your contract agreements, no artistes under such circumstances should talk about MUSIGA’s reluctance to support you if any event organizer treats unfairly because this policy is meant to protect you and your interest as a performing artiste” he indicated.
He also highlighted some of the benefits of this policy including the fact that it would prevent event organizers from taking Central Region musicians for granted since they think some of them are ignorant about the laws of contract.
“This is important because for instance, when I am signing a contract for a performance on behalf of my artiste, I know per the agreement, the event organizer is supposed to pay a deposit of 70% and then after the performance he pays the remaining 30%, but if as an artiste, you don’t inform us about your event and we don’t serve as mediators, how do we assist you because there are no signed documents that indicate you have an agreement with this particular event organizer” he explained in Akan.
Speaking on the same show, King Pee also took a dig at the former Chairperson, Nana Ekuwa Appeatsewah II for lacking leadership skills.
