The Rebecca Project, in partnership with the Registrar’s Office at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has embarked on a transformative girl’s space project to empower teenage mothers and school dropouts to gain skills.
The camp, which started on Thursday, 7 September 2023 and ended on Friday, 9 September, 2023 at UCC is designed to address the specific challenges adolescent girls who find themselves balancing motherhood and the pursuit of education face.
A Junior Assistant Registrar at the office of the Registrar at the University of Cape Coast, Rose Blankson Austin indicated that the Rebecca Project brings together teenage mothers and school dropouts from various communities around the UCC campus, providing them with essential skills and a newfound sense of empowerment.
Speaking to ATL FMNEWS she explained that “some is done through scholarships, some through other engagement.”
She emphasized that to bring out the potential in young girls, the Rebecca project empowers them with the tools they need to create a brighter future for themselves and their families.
She added that by equipping these young women with valuable skills and knowledge, they can improve their lives and positively impact their communities.
“At the end of this program, some will be selected. For example, yesterday, some girls were identified with some talents, and they’ve been selected. So others who are identified with some talents and needs will also be identified and then the help that they will need, it will be given to them.” she continued.
