The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAG), Cape Coast Society, Ghana as part of activities to commemorate the institute’s 10th Anniversary has held a stakeholder engagement with the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and captains of other industries.
The meeting held at the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Cape Coast was to have deliberations on the challenges confronting the industries and to facilitate a smooth partnership between the ICAG and the Chamber of Commerce.
This was aimed at offering the needed assistance to the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Central Region.
Addressing the media at the engagement, the Chairman for the Cape Coast District Society, ICAG, Kwabena Owusu said the meeting has helped unveil some major challenges including securing the needed funds, accounting records and the technical know-how on how to prepare good accounts as well as tax requirements issues facing the business industries.
“And we think that this is where we come in handy because we are professional accountants who have the know-how to be able to as it will give them this support to enable them have a fruitful and successful business going forward,” he continued.
He therefore emphasized that his outfit is ready to offer SMEs and other industries with the necessary support to make their businesses thrive.
Mr. Owusu explained that a committee made up of the Chamber and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Cape Coast District Society will be formed to put up joint proposals to source for funds at a lesser cost.
Additionally, he said a help desk will be set up at the Chamber to provide the necessary advisory services to individuals with business challenges.
“Now of course, as a body, we also have a social responsibility towards the entire community and we hope to do this to support businesses, to thrive and also to work,” he added.
The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Nana Pokoo-Aikins on his part said industries and businesses within the Central Region are expected to perform beyond their current output considering their geographical location, arable lands, and known tourist sites.
he said that with the comparative and competitive advantages of this region, proximity to the oil city, the western region and then proximity Greater Accra, they expect a lot of real estate development, housing, and construction among others for SMEs to be trained to accommodate all those sectors.
He is therefore optimistic that the meeting with ICAG is key in promoting businesses in the region.
Nana Pokoo-Aikins also called on the members of the Chamber of Commerce to work closely with the Institute of Chartered Accountants to help grow their businesses.
He further appealed to all business players within the region to join the Chamber of Commerce to enjoy the benefits it offers.
