The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Cape Coast North constituency, Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku says under no circumstance does any MP use a car loan from the government to do something different.
He said the propaganda surrounding the utilization of car loans by MPs for community projects is an empty promise and misleading claims to entice citizenries to get their votes during an election.
In an exclusive Interview on ATL FM’s ATLANTIC WAVE yesterday, Dr. Mintah emphasized that the prescribed policy explicitly prohibits MPs from utilizing the funds for anything other than the acquisition of a vehicle.
Giving a detailed explanation, he said “It’s not every MP that wants it because some MP don’t need it and you don’t take it. The car loan is meant for a car loan, and for that matter, that loan is meant for a car. If you cannot buy a car loan, you don’t go for the loan. And the money is never given to the MP.
“Car manufacturers will come to Parliament, present portfolio and whatever they can offer. So, the MP will choose which car you want and then is paid directly to the car manufacturer or the car dealer. So, under no circumstance can an aspirant use his car loan for something else or something to support his delegate, that is misappropriation and you can be imprisoned. Because the money is not meant for any other purpose except a vehicle. So, it is highly unacceptable. And that is why I’m taking my time to explain that” he continued.
Dr. MintahNyarku further stated the car loan program was specifically designed to provide MPs with the means to efficiently carry out their duties and navigate their constituencies.
He added that the allocated funds are intended for the purchase of a reliable vehicle, enabling MPs to fulfill their responsibilities effectively and serve their constituents.
