Mfantsipim School has held the second edition of its 2023 stakeholders conference dubbed “Dwen HW3 Kan Forum” aimed at mapping strategies to achieving academic excellence in Ghana.
The Conference under the theme, “147 years of Secondary Education in Ghana: the Role of Stakeholders in Ensuring academic excellence” brought together key holders of the school to brainstorm how all stakeholders can contribute their part to realizing academic excellence at the second cycle institutions in Ghana.
Speaking at the conference which also forms part of the major activities to celebrate the 147th Founders’ Day celebration, the chairman for the forum, Nana Sam Brew-Butler and a former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said infrastructure development plays a critical role in achieving academic excellence and a priority of every country globally.
He however indicated that the case in Ghana looks different as key policymakers and politicians tend to give less importance to infrastructure expansion despite the yearly increment in enrollment in the various Senior High Schools.
He especially expressed worry over the intake of students into schools, computerized placement, and school feeding without the provision of the corresponding dormitories, classrooms, sporting activities, and e-structures as well as sanitation facilities.
“I don’t know what we have done to expand toiletry facilities in the schools yet, the intake keeps multiplying, he stressed.”
Nana Sam Brew-Butler maintained that the provision of infrastructure has been key to unlocking the productive potential of the sector, given accelerated productive investments and educational infrastructure should be no different.
The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Justine Ivy Appau on her part added that achieving academic excellence is a collaborative effort of stakeholders and not the sole responsibility of the government.
She, therefore, called on all stakeholders such as the parents, teachers, and the church to play their part in the quest to achieve academic excellence in Ghana.
While calling on the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) to also continue to give back to their alma mater, she stressed that it is also important for students to know they are the most important stakeholders.
“The students, you are the stakeholder yourself. For us to achieve academic excellence, it is you, nothing but you. Your best and worse grade should be A+.” she said.
