Former Pro. Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Dora Edu-Buandoh has encouraged young women to prepare and ready themselves for available opportunities that may be presented to them through good grooming and self-development.
This she said will help them get the opportunity to be selected to do some work even at the higher levels.
“Nobody will look at you if you don’t have the capabilities. So, they should build their confidence, whatever they do they should learn to do it well” she continued.
Prof. Dora Edu-Buandoh gave this advice to young women on March 8; International Women’s Day to celebrate women internationally.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ATLFM NEWS, Prof. Edu-Buandoh said women should be able to cultivate the habit of honesty and hard work especially when it comes to reaching a higher social status.
She also said it is important young women avoid cutting corners to make easy money or get easy recognition.
“Because it’s important that you’re being recognized for your dignity and for what you can give than just being recognized because you are female. So, I congratulate all women but I will also want to encourage them to build themselves well so that they can be invited to positions of trust” she continued.
The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day in 1975, proclaimed the International Women’s year.
In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as an official UN holiday for women’s rights and world peace.
The day is celebrated to create awareness among people about gender equality, effects of gender bias, the role women play in society, abuse against women, and reproductive issues faced by women.
