Mavis Hawa Koomson, the minister of fisheries and aquaculture, has been named as acting minister for the ministry of food and agriculture by President Akufo-Addo.
This comes after Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s resignation.
The MP for Awutu Senya East will oversee the sector until a meaningful replacement is made, according to a press statement issued by the Presidency on January 12 by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin.
He claims that the President has acknowledged the resignation and expressed appreciation for Mr. Afriyie Akoto’s contributions to the administration
On Tuesday, January 10, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto tendered in his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo and the country.

This came four days after Trade Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, resigned from the government.
JoyNews Presidential Affairs correspondent, Elton Brobbey, in an interview on NewsNight on Joy FM, Tuesday said the Minister had a meeting with the President after which he submitted the letter.
According to him, the President accepted Dr Akoto’s resignation and wished him well in his endeavours.
Sources say this is to enable the former Agric Minister concentrate on his presidential ambition.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto, one of the NPP’s veterans is vying to lead the party in the 2024 elections.
In addition to him and Mr. Alan Kyerematen, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, Mr. Joe Ghartey, and Mr. Boagye Agyarko have also made it known that they intend to run for the position of NPP flagbearer.
The party has not yet announced a date for the presidential primary elections.
On the same program, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s national organizer, stated that a date for the election will be set “in accordance with our constitution.”
