Prof. John Micah, Rector of the Institute of Development and Technology Management (IDTM) in Cape Coast says the current challenge of the country is its inability to use suitable technology and processing methods to exploit its minerals in an environmentally friendly manner.
He noted that using technology can prevent or minimize damage and maximise the socio-economic benefits of technology.
Prof. Micah said these during the 7th Congregation and Graduation of the Institute which was on the theme: “Technology Management, the answer to Ghana’s development challenge: IDTM in focus.
The importance of technology management in national development cannot be overemphasized. It is well established that development and civilization are directly dependent on the products of Technology. The resolution of this challenge is clearly subsumed in the mandate of this Institute, a mandate which underscores IDTM’s role in contributing to national development”, he said.
Graduation Challenge
Three students graduated with a PhD in Development studies and technology management while 8 students graduated with mphil in development studies, leadership and development, gender and development, project management and development finance.
He said graduation, being a culmination of hard expedition towards academic achievement is a welcoming refreshment.
Prof. Micah therefore challenged the graduates to use the knowledge the had gained at IDTM to promote sustainable agriculture, community development, peace leadership and decent jobs.

He said “graduation in itself is riot the end of the voyage; neither is it simply a new beginning; it is rather like making a big turn in the voyage. It is our hope that this great turning for you today becomes a step and a refreshing boost in your life’s journey. IDTM is the road you chose on this leg of your life’s journey and we are proud to have been part of your voyage”.
Future Plans
Prof. Micah further indicated that IDTM’s greatest motivation is the desire and utmost commitment to be a leader in delivering a holistic transformative education in development and technology management that empowers the whole person for quality service and servant leadership.
He added that the institute plans on investing in and strengthening its business support systems.
“In the coming years, and in pursuit of quality, we will concentrate on strengthening three particular areas that we believe will greatly enhance our growth namely continuously maximizing our human resource capacity; Investing in and strengthening our business support systems like the ICT infrastructure and library resources; and concentrating on expanding our physical infrastructure to provide quality physical facilities for all our programmes”.
Valedictory Speech
In his Valedictory Speech on behalf of the 2022 IDTM graduating Class, Dr. Eben Tawiah Anuwa-Amarh urged his colleague graduands to be scholars and impact their societies.
“Graduations are significant rites of passage into a league of “scholars.” This highly symbolic yet important ceremony is meant to transition us from mere consumers of knowledge to contributing towards solving society’s problems,” he said.
