The Manager of the Ghana Commercial Bank, UCC branch, Mr. Richard Gregory Denakpor, has urged parents to participate in the academic development of their wards as teachers do their part.
According to him, parents are the major stakeholders in bringing up a child and identifying his or her potential.
Speaking exclusively to ATL FM NEWS, at the 5th graduation and awards-giving day of the Akotobinsin Methodist KG/Primary School in Cape Coast, Mr. Denakpor noted that if parents pay keen attention to the academic growth of their wards, it will enlighten them on the problems their wards face academically and the way forward.
“We are urging parents to play an active part in training the child. They are being able to identify their weaknesses from home and they can even relate this to the teacher for the teacher to work on in the classroom. So, the role of parents in training the child is very key and it’s very important. And I’m urging all parents to take up that role seriously.” He said.
He however advised students to also take their studies seriously and avoid anything that hinders their academics, since they themselves have roles to play in shaping their academics.
He said it is important that students reduce, television, playtime, and video games and rather be devoted to their books.
“This will offer them a better future.” He added.
Mr. Denakpor further admonished the public to support the children and the education system in whichever way to make it even better going forward.
The 5th graduation and awards giving day of the Akotobinsin Methodist KG/Primary School was held on the theme “Discipleship: Living a Transformed Life as Leaders, the Role of Parents, Teachers and other Stakeholders in Educating the Child”
According to the Headmistress of the Akotobinsin Methodist School, Miss Emma Priscilla Wilson, the theme is to persist in creating awareness and called on stakeholders to maintain their roles and act accordingly to help students and education as a whole.
“We want the parents to know their responsibilities, the teachers to know their responsibilities. We are reminding all our stakeholders of their responsibilities” she said.
She, therefore, assured the general public that irrespective of whatever circumstances, teachers will honor their responsibilities and help the students.
