The University of Cape Coast has been lauded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for expanding its focus in response to the changing societal needs and in its infrastructural development.
According to him, the university has indeed seen considerable growth, with faculty-student enrollment and infrastructure.
He has therefore assured of Government’s Commitment to help the university expand in its infrastructure development.
“I assure of the commitment of my government to give the university the required support to expand its infrastructure for the benefit of the numerous senior high school graduates who now qualify to access university education,” he said.
He said providing maximum support for the expansion of infrastructure in the university is something his government will continue to do.
President Akufo Addo who is an alumnus of UCC by virtue of being conferred with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership degree by the University also assured UCC that he will not break his promise of supporting the university with the construction of a students’ accommodation facility.
Speaking to the University community during the 60th Anniversary Grand Durbar, he further said the university must remain pure and unadulterated in its provision of quality scholarly discourse.
This he believes will help the university to continue making greater impacts by producing workforces that will help find solutions to complex challenges in Ghana and on global issues.
“UCC, I am very proud of you. My charge to the university is to remain pure and unadulterated in the provision of quality academic and intellectual discourse and in finding solutions to complex and far-reaching problems across borders and disciplines,” he said.
According to the president, there are fewer better places suited to do these than in universities such as UCC.
As such he said “I want to continue to hear that your products are making positive impacts and building a stronger distinctive workforce in Ghana, in Africa, and across the world,” he indicated.
