A Pensioners’ Day has been held for the retirees of the University of Cape Coast to reminisce about their tremendous contributions to the university while in active service.
The program which is part of activities scheduled to commemorate the university’s 60th anniversary also offered some pensioners the opportunity to share their success stories and their challenges during their service to the university and towards their retirement.
Speaking in an interview with ATL FM NEWS, Mr. Johnny Bansah who was once a Chief Library Assistant at UCC and served the University for 38 years stressed the relevance of continuously holding events such as Pensioners’ Day.
Meanwhile, as a staunch member of the Pensioners’ Association, he indicated that such events also help to highlight how important it is for a retiree to join the Pensioners’ Association considering the great benefits it brings.
“So we are trying to share the experiences that we had while we were in office. And also to get people to be aware that when you leave office, you can join the association if not for anything at all to be able to meet old colleagues and then we sought of chat and make merry.”
Mr. Bansah also revealed certain packages rolled out by the Pensioners’ Association to cushion its members.
He said for instance if you are “sick and you go to the hospital and you’re given a prescription, normally, when you go and buy it then you come and claim but we have arranged with some pharmacies where you will take your prescription without paying.”
He also called on the leadership to address issues pensioners have tabled before them over time.
