The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) says the decision by the KNUST Governing Council to abolish the JCR system in the various Halls of residence of the University is an affront to student representation and rights, especially for an institution of higher learning.
According to the NUGS, conversations and engagement with student leaders across the country, particularly those at the various hall levels, on a Student-Centered Roadmap to ensure sustainable peace on various university campuses have begun.
In a press statement released on Tuesday 30th August, and signed by the president Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo and issued by the Secretary for Press, Bright Aboagye Gyasi, NUGS said they believe that the decision does not speak to the reality and causes of clashes in university campuses in the country.
As such NUGS says the decision must be repealed for the rather damaging effect that it would present.
