The Acting Public Relations Manager of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, Ernestina Adumea Anie is urging the public to adhere to the closed Season on hunting of wildlife species in the country.
She notes that the four-month-long ban is part of efforts by her outfit to guarantee the sustainable management and utilization of the nation’s wildlife.
The four-month ban which began on August 1 and ends on December 1, 2022, is in accordance with the Wildlife Conservation Regulations, 1971 (L.I. 685).
In this regard, a ban has been placed on the hunting, capture, and destruction of wildlife species.
Madam Ernestina Anie indicated that the nation’s wildlife is very important as it helps provide employment, food, medicine, and promote culture among others.
Speaking exclusively on ATLFM’S ATLANTIC WAVE on Monday, she urged the public to collaborate with her outfit to ensure that the goal of instituting the law is achieved.
She notes that “the reason for the ban is to actually help to regulate the population size of the animals to ensure that we get enough of all the benefits so that at least they can help us survive.”
“We are also asking the general public to help us and support us because the country is very wide and I don’t think that wildlife division will be able to able to cover every area…inform us when you see anything out of the way.” She added.
Madam Ernestina Adumea Anie further pleaded with the public to find other sources of protein to consume during the ban adding.
She said it is important for them to take a cue from viruses transmitted from consuming wildlife animals and comply with the ban which is also affording her outfit to research into such matters during the period.
