Dean of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFSC), Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso is cautioning landlords to be extra vigilant when people offer ready cash for rooms in their homes.
His call follows the recent jailbreak on Wednesday, July 6 at the Kuje Maximum Security Prison in Abuja in Nigeria.
He said, “we are not only looking for strange people because they are not going to behave as if they are strange in anyway so we need to be alert of anything untoward, persons we have not seen before in our communities”.
“People who will come and have enough money to rent our houses and things like that. These are the issues that are at stake and we should very careful about them because they will run away to places where they know detection will be difficult,” he noted.
Official report says in all, 443 out of the 879 inmates broke jail.
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) says the recent jailbreak could be masterminded by the Boko Haram militant group and has urged all regional and sector commanders to be alert.
A portion of the memo read “considering current migration trends of Nigerians within the sub-region, it is likely most of the escapees will attempt to enter Ghana through both approved and unapproved routes.
The images of the Boko Haram-linked inmates have been sent to officials for easy identification.
Reacting to this in an interview on GBC and monitored by ATLFMNEWS, Dr. Antwi-Danso said it is the collective responsibility of all to help the security agencies to deal with terrorist attacks because they come with no flags.
To him the number of fled inmates is alarming and the matter should be treated with urgency as the gatekeeper’s warning is very important.
“Actually we need to be very alert because they can come and hide over here and make this place also part of their terrain,” he said
He said the freed inmates would not stay in Nigeria but rather integrate themselves into other countries to augment the activities of BOKO HARAM.
