The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly on July 1, 2022, began a decongestion exercise at the Kotokuraba and Abura markets to enhance the movement and security of marketers, pedestrians, and vehicles in and around the markets.
The Assembly says, the exercise has become necessary due to the activities of traders selling at inappropriate places and drivers parking at unauthorized places.
He indicated that such actions impede movements in the markets thereby congestion in such areas.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS on the state of the metropolis and some of the operations the assembly is engaged in, the Cape Coast Metro Chief Executive, Mr. Ernest Arthur said the decongestion exercise will not be an easy one and urged the public to give them their maximum cooperation to make the exercise successful.
He said a task force will be set to see to the successful execution of the exercise.
Outlining developmental projects the assembly is undertaking, the MCE said the renovation of the assembly block, construction of a police station at CCTU, and the construction of chips compound at Korofofrodo and Mempeasem are some of the ongoing projects while the water crises in the kotokuraba market have been resolved.
“As we speak now the kotokuraba market does not depend on Ghana water for water, we have been able to sink three mechanized boreholes so it’s like a chain. The first one will feed that which is in the middle and the other one will feed the last one and the last one will pump into the reservoir so as we speak yesterday it started pumping water and very soon the issue of kotokuraba market no water and toilet facilities been locked will be a thing of the past.”
