As part of one of its mandates to ensure the safety of students of the University of Cape Coast, the Students Representative Council has come out with measures to help students affected by the weekend flooding in some communities surrounding the university.
According to a statement issued by the SRC Office and jointly signed by the president Samuel Kwabena Adotei and Secretary, Nina Grant, affected students should temporarily move to their Halls of residence for safety.
The flooding occurred after the collapse of the Junkwa Bridge which is said to have been caused by the overflowing of the banks of the Surowi River.
The flood affected a number of homes and student hostels located in the neighbouring communities such as Amamoma, Ayensu, and Kwawprow around the University of Cape Coast.
It further stated that the SRC is collaborating with the Dean of Students’ Affairs to provide temporal relief to students affected by the flood.
The statement said the hall arrangement dates from June 21, 2022, to June 30, 2022, and also entreated the students to provide evidence of the official justification of their stay on campus to secure accommodation in the Halls.
