Nominations for New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executive seats commence today [Tuesday, April 19, 2022] and end tomorrow.
From April 28 to May 2, 2022, the following positions will be contested: Constituency Chairperson, First Constituency Vice Chairperson, Second Constituency Vice Chairperson, Constituency Secretary, Constituency Assistant Secretary, Constituency Treasurer, Constituency Organiser, Constituency Women Organiser, Constituency Youth Organiser, and Constituency Nasara Coordinator.
Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Research and Elections, has appealed to all members of the party who have sought injunctions at various polling stations and electoral co-ordinators election to withdraw their law suits and seek redress through the party’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee, chaired by Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
He added that some of the dissatisfied members proceeded to court after the polling stations and electoral area co-ordinators elections were completed.
He urged all candidates for constituency posts to address any of their complaints through the party’s institutions.
Mr Nimako expressed his optimism that the elections would be successful and urged all members of the party’s elections committee to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the party’s laws and standards as specified by the National Council.
Electoral Commission
He said that the Electoral Commission (EC) is responsible for supervising constituency elections under Section 17 (2) of the Political Parties Law, Act 574.
He stated that the party will only accept elections that are overseen by the Electoral Commission.
Delegates to the Constituency Annual Delegates Conference shall include members of the constituency executive committee; all electoral area coordinators; all five polling station executives from all polling stations in the constituency; five members of the constituency council of elders; five members of the constituency council of Patrons; and any founder member from the constituency, according to Mr Nimako.
He stated that a quorum of the conference would need the presence of at least one-third (1/3) of the constituency’s representatives.
Forms
Members of the party who are eligible to run for any of the open positions can do so by visiting the party’s website (www.newpatrioticparty.org) and downloading a nomination form, submitting it before the deadline, or physically picking up the forms at the party office.
Those seeking chairperson positions would be required to pay GH500, while those seeking other seats would be have to pay GH200.
The application fee would be paid at the time the forms are submitted.
