A 53-year-old fisherman was convicted to 15 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 10-year-old girl at La.
Samuel Odoi Yemofio, who is accused of defilement, has pleaded not guilty.
Yemofio was found guilty at the conclusion of the trial, which was presided over by Christina Cann.
According to Chief Kofi Atimbire, the complainant is a shopkeeper at La and is the victim’s auntie.
According to Chief Inspector Atimbire, the victim was a class four student who resided with the complaint.
On January 12, this year, at about 4:30 p.m., the victim who had been asked to serve ice cream returned home and said that, on her way home, Yemofio enticed her into his room, gagged her, and defiled her.
When the complainant learned about the victim’s ordeal, he went to the La Police Station.
The case was eventually moved to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit’s Cantonment Division, where a medical form was granted to the complainant in order to seek medical attention for the victim.
Yemofio was eventually apprehended by police, but in his caution statement, he adamantly denied the offense.
