The University of Cape Coast has officially launched its Design Thinking and Innovation Hub (D-HUB) initiative to help solve societal problems through design thinking, technology transfer, diffusion of innovation, and continuous improvement.
At the launch of the initiative, with a mission to develop change agents, stimulate the establishment and growth of start-up firms and other businesses, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Obeng Mireku reiterated the University Council’s commitment to making the University an entrepreneurial university.
He said it is their belief that the initiative will help achieve the National agenda of creating an entrepreneurial-minded generation.
“…the design thinking and innovation hub set up here at the University of Cape Coast will serve as an avenue to chart, monitor, and document success. Products and services from this hub will serve and contribute to the National agenda of creating entrepreneurial-minded next generational leaders who will think outside the box to create businesses and innovative ventures that will lead to job creation…”
Chancellor of the University, Sir Dr. Sam Esson Jonah commended the Vice-chancellor for championing the D-HUB initiative.
He said, “I am happy that the University has embraced the new order of grooming the next generational leaders”.
Sir Dr. Sam Jonah stressed the need for participants of such initiatives to work diligently, create jobs and help solve societal problems.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong said the D-HUB is a good step towards transforming the university into an entrepreneurial university and also provides an enabling environment to harness ideas into viable businesses.
