The Elmina District Police Command has rescued a 2-year-old male child suspected to be a child of special needs, who was buried alive at the shores of Dutch-Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Municipality.
According to a release by the Deputy Central Regional Police Command PRO, Inspector Evans Ettie, information about the incident reached the police at about 11:45 pm on Saturday, 26th March 2022 after which the police proceeded to the crime scene and with the help of the youth and Assemblymember of Dutch-Komenda electoral area, Hon. Cosmos Bassaw, rescued the boy.
The release says the preliminary investigation, gathered revealed that the parents, from Komenda and Abrobeano, consulted a spiritualist at Dutch-Komenda to get rid of the child due to his impairment.
It further stated that the child after his rescue was sent to the Kissi Health Centre in KEEA Municipality and has been treated and discharged.
The child’s 29-year-old mother, his 37-year-old father, and 70-year-old grandfather who are suspected to have conspired to commit the crime are currently in police custody assisting in the investigation.
However, the ritualist, Kweku Bar who is currently on the run is being pursued by the police.
The case is also still under investigation.
