A Lecturer and a Counsellor at the Counselling Centre of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Gloria Owusu-Ambrose has called on the general public, especially members of the University Community and Students to see their happiness as paramount in all circumstances.
According to her, continuous sadness can result in depression which is very detrimental to an individual’s health.
Dr. Gloria Owusu-Ambrose, speaking to ATL FM during the commemoration of the International Day of Happiness which was on the theme: Keep Calm, Stay Wise, Be Kind” said happiness is now considered one of the most essential fundamental needs of all human beings.
She believes that some people are thinking about happiness without necessarily thinking about some of the things that could rightly give them the happiness that they desire.
Explaining further, she said, “yes, we are humans faced with challenges all around but worry is not the solution, anxiety is not the solution so be calm.”
Dr. Gloria Owusu called on all persons to be conscious of their decisions, which according to her, can affect an individual’s happiness.
“A lot of unhappiness people experience results from excuse my language, unwise decisions, unwise behaviors, unwise attitudes, unwise practices and all that. So, it is important that we stay wise; meaning having the right kind of disposition to life,” she indicated
The Counsellor also attributed happiness to health and said it is very important people seek counselling for assistance when need be.
“At the University of Cape Coast we are blessed, we have the counselling center here ready to help you, especially the University Community. You can access their services free of charge. For students at the halls, we have counsellors at all the halls, go to them. You are also welcome to come to the center to come and see any counselor of your choice,” she opined.
