The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says in adding human value for the development of the country, his government is fully committed to ensuring the promotion of education in Ghana.
According to him, most developed countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea have come this far in terms of development due to their committed efforts in investing in their education sector.
He said “they invested heavily in education and the knowledge industry to transform the circumstances of their kingdom. This is the reason why government has given such importance of guaranteeing access to a minimum of senior high school education for all Ghanaian children and is laying emphasis in particular on technical and vocational training (TVET) as the major pillar for development.”
President Akufo-Addo said this on Saturday, March 19 when he joined St. Augustine’s College to mark the school’s 92nd Speech and Prize-giving Day under the theme: Redefining Education Delivery in Technological Age, The Role of ST. Augustine’s College.
He said education must be given the uttermost priority if Ghana is to attain the better economy that every Ghanaian is desiring.
To this end, the president noted that government has adopted a strategy to expand technical and vocational opportunities at both secondary and tertiary levels to strengthen the linkages between education and industry.
This he said is also to empower the youth to deploy their skills and employ themselves and others.
He added saying “The government, in view of the challenge facing the TVET sector, has initiated a number of policy measures in improving the coordination of the TVET sector and enhancing the effectiveness of the operations of training institutions. We have taken concrete steps towards redeeming the misconception that technical and vocational education is inferior and patronized by intellectually and financially less endowed students.”
Nana Akufo Addo also reiterated that in order to protect and guard the democratic rule the country is currently enjoying, his government will resist any coup attempt made by any individual or group in the country.
He emphasized saying “I have said, and will use this platform to repeat that coups have never been, and will never be durable solutions to the political, economic and security challenges confronting our nation and continent.”
