The Municipal Chief Executive for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Mr. Solomon Ebo Appiah says engaging stakeholders is the way to go in fighting open defecation in the Municipality.
His statement follows a report indicating that some residents of Ayisah, a fishing community in KEEA have turned parts of the sea defense built to protect the community from raging tidal waves into refuse dumps and places of convenience.

According to Mr. Appiah on ATL FM’S BIRIBI SORONKO on Saturday, 12th February, his predecessor initiated programmes to curb the menace of open defecation in the Municipality but the residents disregard the laid down initiatives put in place by the Assembly.
He indicated that dealing with the menace in the Municipality has been one of his priorities.
“I will soon engage relevant stakeholders in the Municipal Assembly to take concrete decisions that will help curb the menace because I believe open defecation is an issue of concern to all despite one’s political affiliation. When a collective decision is taken it will help us punish culprits without prejudice.”
Task Force
The MCE hinted that without delay, a task force will be formed to help apprehend culprits and bring them to book.
He said members of the task force will be given digital cameras to help deal with the challenges associated with a physical confrontation which usually occurs when residents are caught in the act. With the cameras, they will take the photographs of those caught in the act, publish it and circulate them in their respective communities to serve as a deterrent to others.
Mr. Appiah also appealed to residents of KEEA to desist from such acts because those who will be caught will be prosecuted.
