Chairman of the National Premix Committee, Dennis Percyval Quaicoe has assured that there will be no increment in premix fuel prices though a slight increase in fuel prices have been announced.
He however notes that should government make any changes to the prices in this regard, it would be made public adding that government is more concerned about ensuring the timely distribution of premix to the fisherfolk than increasing its price.
Condensate form of premix fuel
Speaking to ATLFM NEWS, Mr. Quaicoe revealed government’s plan of changing the premix fuel into a condensate form which he believes will solve the myriad of premix challenges.
Explaining how beneficial the condensate will be beneficial to fishers, he indicated that “when people divert the fuel, most of the time it gets to vehicles because the premix is super but is just blended with gasoline and other ingredients. Vehicles can use the premix fuel but users should be cautious. However, with the condensate there is no way vehicles can use such products”
He also stressed that the introduction of the automation system will ensure transparency and allow fishermen to have equal access to the premix fuel.
Commitment
Mr. Quaicoe also expressed his commitment in ensuring that landing beach committees (LBCs) pay what is due the communities in which they discharge their duties.
He said, “we will continue to monitor; the issue of accountability we will deal with it will make sure that the 53% will get to the destination”.
Government in July 2009 established the National Premix Fuel Committee to supervise the administration and distribution of premix.
However, for effective management, landing beach committees (LBCs) were set up at various landing beaches to empower fishermen to operate premix fuel stations at landing beaches.
These committees were allowed to use 53 percent of the proceeds for community development projects.
