Two University of Cape Coast alumni, Lawyer Nadine Addo-Nartey and a Professor at the Howard Community College in the USA, Kwabena Amoo have donated some books to the faculty of law and the UCC Library valued at $60,000.
Presenting the books to the University, Prof. Rev Amoo indicated that the donations formed part of their commitment to the advancement of their Alma Mata
He, therefore, urged other alumni to come and contribute their quota in the same way they did because the university has had such a positive impact on their lives.
“So, I want to encourage every alumnus to join the alumni association and to help bring more to the university that made us who we are.” He said
Receiving the books, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Rosemond Boohene emphasized the importance of students and old student contributing their fair share in the university’s growth and urged other alumni groups and business entities to collaborate with the university to undertake some projects.
She stressed saying “when the university trains you and you have the opportunity to move up in your career, there is the need for you to look back and give back to the society.”
In a related development, the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI) has also donated some books to the UCC library.
According to the project coordinator for Wakanda 1 city of return, Nana Obokese Ampah, the ADDI was formed in order to promote unity among the African diaspora and to encourage them to participate in the development of Africa.
He also explained the donation is part of the institutes’ plan to strengthen the region’s current facilities even as they seek to build the Wakanda 1 City of Return.
Nana Obokese Ampah indicated that the institute is ready to partner with the University specifically the College of Distance of Education to attract the Ghanaian Scholars in the diaspora.
“We are going to focus on how we can help the college of distance education to attract the diaspora population so that their programs will be marketed widely amongst them. We are hoping that by next week, we will have our final agreement signed and whiles that is done, we want to work closely with the university because cape coast is going to be the seat of everything that is happening. It is going to be the hub of everything diaspora” Nana Ampah added.
Speaking on the establishment of the Wakanda 1 City of Return, Nana Kwamina Kra II, provost of the Wakanda One Obokese University of Excellence explained it is important for the existing structures in the region to be improved.
To him, this is very important to the success of the partnership that Wakanda one city is not seen as some fantasy of establishing some big gathered community on the African continent that will further re-enforce the idea and perception that there is nothing there.
The books were received by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Mrs) Rosemond Boohene who then handed them back to the Deputy University Librarian Mrs. Paulina Afful-Arthur
