The University of Cape Coast has on Saturday, January 8, 2022, admitted into its campuses fresh students for the 2021/2022 academic year to pursue various chosen programs of study in the university.
The exercise which started as early as 6 am saw many fresh students and their guardians undertaking the necessary processes and procedures as a requirement in their respective assigned halls to be fully admitted into the school.
The various halls with the assistance of the hall executives, the cadet corps, and other individuals assigned to help in the process also gave these fresh students a warm reception and were guided to authenticate their affiliation to the halls as well as gain access to their respective rooms where they will be staying for the next academic year.
The various halls recorded a smooth reception exercise with less congestion due to the measures put in place where the students are allowed to select their rooms online before they reported to the school for the final exercise.
ATLFMNEWS interacted with some hall masters, warden, and hall tutors to solicit their views on how the exercise has been. The Hall warden of Adehye the only female hall in the university, Dr. Regina Amoako Sekyi shared her thoughts on how the process has been and the challenges encountered so far.
She noted that about 440 beds had been provided for the students however the number of fresh students for that hall outnumbered the number of beds provided.
She, therefore, said “we had to redistribute, we had to call on our other halls to help us…our greatest challenge is our students who came but we did not get space for them.
On his part, the Presiding Hall Assistant of the Student Representative Council Hall Mr. Uriel Ewusie indicated that the required precautions had been taken to prevent the COVD-19 virus from spreading as the registration is ongoing.
He however said, “We are not inspecting the vaccine cards because we do not have the authority to do so…when you come, we have where we pack bags and where the students are supposed to sit. Parents are not allowed inside because of the COVID protocols we’ve put in place. So when the students go through the registration process, he or she goes alone into the room and if the bags are supposed to be carried inside, we have staffs that are doing that”
Some parents also stated that registering their wards was a simple process adding that fresh students should take their studies seriously because their admission was the main basis for their acceptance into the university.
You’ve come to study. Aside from enjoying university life, you have to study and that should be your priority so at the end of the day you can achieve your aim” one parent said.
In an interview with ATL FM NEWS, some fresh students who reported on the first day explained why they chose the University of Competitive Choice.
One student said, “I realized that UCC can offer me the kind of program I want with a very conducive environment.”
Another student also stated that “I actually grew to like UCC from a program I attended. I think it was a spelling bee. I came here and I actually liked how everything was. And B. Com is actually the best program and UCC is the best school offering that program right now. The environment is really nice and I like how the buildings are. Generally, everything is good.”
