The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has called on stakeholders to be effective and innovative in service delivery to the most vulnerable in society.
Though it is the government’s vision to make sure digitization and digitalization are taken seriously to aid them in their service delivery, stakeholders are also encouraged to also play their role in this regard.
Caretaker Minister for Children, Gender and Social Protection, Cecilia Abena Dapaah said this during a press briefing Sunday.
She revealed at the presser that, the ministry, in collaboration with its partners, has implemented five electronic systems and strategies to assist in addressing sexual and gender-based violence.
This she explains is to enhance and facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency in managing violence and challenges children and the vulnerable face in the country.
These systems include the Orange Support Centre, the Single Window Citizen Engagement services, the Social Welfare Information Management system, Leap Management Information system and the Ghana National Household Registry Database.
The orange support Centre is a technology platform that aims at providing information and support for survivors and domestic sexual and gender-based violence including child marriage in Ghana.
The orange support centre comes in two folds namely the call-in section which is a toll-free line and the mobile app referred to as ‘Boame App.
According to the Caretaker Minister of the sector, 1,448 calls were received and resolved through the toll-free number (0800111222) between March and June 2021.
Greater Accra region top had the highest number of cases reported while the Bono and western regions had the lowest number of reported cases.
She explained that “the Centre demonstrates the continuous efforts for more stakeholders to bring to zero all forms of domestic and gender-based violence in Ghana”
Mrs Cecilia Dapaah notes that cases reported at the centre included rape, defilement and domestic violence.
She adds that a child marriage information portal has also been developed to share information and intervention on child marriage with the general public.
