Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin says president Akufo Addo’s commitment to protecting the national public purse is on course with a duty of implementing policies to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
has reiterated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s commitment to protecting the national purse saying it is on course with a duty of implementing policies to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
At a press briefing Thursday, he said the transformation that has taken place in all aspects of national life points to an economy that has been well-managed, a public purse that is being well-protected with the benefits are being evident to all.
According to him, if President Akufo-Addo had presided over the willful misuse of public funds, Ghanaians would not have placed their trust in him less than ten months ago by handing him a decisive margin of victory in the 2020 elections.
His statements follow the president Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Philip Naameh comments at this year’s plenary assembly of the association in Wa that “Though poverty stares us in the face, it appears lost to those with power” adding that “the expressed commitment of the president of the republic to protect the public purse – a promise that citizens welcomed – seems to be an illusion now”.
He continued to state that “those who are entrusted with power that comes from our collective will must know that what they do with that, shapes what we all will become in the future”.
However, Mr. Eugene Arhin said the government is engaged in paying up debts racked by the previous government and if the public purse is being misappropriated, the free SHS, NABCO, and the effective roll-out of the Ghana Identification which has seen more than 15.6 million Ghanaian issued with ID cards would not have happened.
On the issue of media reports that the government sent a large delegation to the C.O.P26 in Glasgow, Mr. Arhin said the reports are false.
He said the presidency sent a delegation of 24 personalities to the conference and the figure being suggested is untrue and should be disregarded.
